We are committed to advancing the experience of students in the workplace. To be considered for an internship with the Office of the State Treasurer and Receiver-General, you must have:

  • A completed application form

  • Both a resume and cover letter, which includes your internship selection (i.e., spring, summer, or fall)

  • A letter of recommendation

  • Three (3) references, and

  • A writing sample. Writing samples should be a personal statement that highlight at least two departments within the Treasury you are interested in working with and why.

Interested candidates for the internship should submit their completed applications to internship@tre.state.ma.us. Candidates interested in internship opportunities may submit their resumes, indicating the departments or agencies of interest in the subject line of the email.

Deadlines

The Treasury internship program will run on academic semester schedules. Here are the deadlines for each internship application, which corresponds to the appropriate semester:

  • Spring Internship: February–May (deadline for entry, December 1)

  • Summer Internship: July–August (deadline for entry May 1)***

  • Fall Internship: September–December (deadline for entry August 1)

*** The summer internship is open to high school students and college/graduate students who can only commit to an internship in the summer.

Procedure

Qualified candidates will be interviewed at least once. If selected, the successful candidates will receive tentative offers from Human Resources. Upon acceptance of an offer, the intern candidate must complete a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) form.

Please note the following stipulations regarding an internship at the Treasury:

  • CORI: Internship candidates who accept the offer must complete CORI checks. The offer of internship is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory criminal record inquiry within CORI law parameters. Where applicable, Human Resources may request a history of the applicant’s driving records.

  • Eligibility: Human Resources will then determine whether the applicant has the legal right to work in the United States upon receipt of documentation in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act.

  • Compensation: Treasury internships are generally unpaid.

  • Family members and relatives: The Treasury does not consider family members for internships.

Fellowship Applications

To apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and writing sample. References will be required if candidates move past the first round of interviews. The application period is now closed.
