New high school to feature state of the art computer and science labs, as well as dedicated art and media production spaces

WILMINGTON, MASS. — State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) and Jack McCarthy, MSBA Executive Director, joined state and local officials at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Wilmington High School. The MSBA will contribute a maximum grant of up to $35,674,893 of eligible expenses toward the project.

“This project will help provide the children of Wilmington with the educational opportunities they need to compete in our 21stcentury innovation economy,” said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. “Investing in high quality public educational facilities is an essential ingredient to the Commonwealth’s strategy for long-term sustainable economic growth.”

The project consists of a new 192,450 square foot school with a design enrollment of 960 students in grades 9 through 12. The MSBA will contribute 55.19 percent of eligible costs toward the $82.6 million project.

“The MSBA is thrilled to have taken part in this project,” Executive Director Jack McCarthy said. “This partnership between the District and the MSBA has provided an up-to-date, 21st century facility for the children of Wilmington.”

“The opening of the new Wilmington High School is an important event in the life of the town, reflecting the successful partnership between local and state government to create a first class facility worthy of the educators and staff that give our students knowledge and the power to pursue their dreams," said Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester). "In turn, the school also represents a major investment in Wilmington students that will serve them well and yield dividends now and for decades to come."

“This new facility is a wise investment in Wilmington’s future,” said Representative Ken Gordon (D-Bedford). “I thank everyone who worked hard and sacrificed time to make this plan a reality.”

"It is an incredible educational facility that will serve students of Wilmington well for generations to come. We are so grateful to the State Treasurer’s office and the Massachusetts School Building Authority for their support for this project. It would not have been possible without the funding provided by MSBA. We are also thrilled to welcome Treasurer Goldberg on Tuesday for our Grand Opening Ceremony to share this special day. We are very proud of our new High School and we look forward to welcoming students, staff, and special guests."

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,500 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made more than $11.1 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects.
